The VA compensation program provides monthly benefits to disabled veterans. To be eligible for benefits, the disability must be due to an injury or disease that was caused or worsened by the military service. Some disabling conditions may develop after release from active duty.
The amount of the benefit is based upon the severity of the disability. If the disability is rated at 30 percent or more, additional allowances may be available to dependents. For more information about help for veterans visit the NJ Veterans Service Office (VSO) website and the VA Compensation website.
If you have questions about your legal rights as a veteran, please contact Legal Services of New Jersey’s Veterans Legal Assistance Project by calling LSNJLAWSM, LSNJ’s statewide, toll-free legal hotline, at 1-888-LSNJ-LAW (1-888-576-5529). You may also apply for help from the online intake.
