Important information about DACA

On September 5, 2017, the Attorney General and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that they are terminating the DACA program. To understand how this decision may affect you, please refer to the questions and answers below:

I have DACA. My current DACA status and related work permit expire after March 5, 2018. What can I do?

You do not need to do anything. Your status and work permit will remain valid until the expiration date listed on your documents. DHS/USCIS does have the right to revoke or terminate an individual’s DACA status and related work permit at any point, so if, for example, you get arrested or violate any law, you may lose your status.

What if I already filed a renewal application for my DACA status and work permit, and my application was pending as of September 5, 2017?

DHS/USCIS has said that they will decide these requests on a case-by-case basis. That means they are not automatically denying pending renewal requests, and they are not automatically approving pending renewal requests. You will get a decision in the mail on your pending application.

What if I filed for DACA and a work permit for the first time, and my application was pending as of September 5, 2017?

DHS/USCIS has said that they will decide these requests on a case-by-case basis. That means they are not automatically denying pending initial requests, and they are not automatically approving pending initial requests. You will get a decision in the mail on your pending application.

I have never applied for DACA in the past, but I meet all the eligibility requirements. Can I still apply?

No, DHS/USCIS is not accepting any new/initial DACA applications.
