Disaster Assistance—General Information

Disaster assistance may include money or other assistance to individuals, families and businesses in an area impacted by a disaster. Local disaster assistance may be available from the state, county, or township. FEMA disaster assistance is available after a Presidential disaster declaration for a specific impacted area. Disaster assistance will not duplicate assistance that should be available through insurance coverage, and is designed as a resource of last resort if critical expenses cannot be covered in other ways. This assistance is not intended to restore your damaged property to its condition before the disaster.

While some housing assistance funds could be available through FEMA’s Individual Assistance program up to a certain limit, additional funds may be offered in the form of federal loans administered by the Small Business Administration.
