Child Care Services Available Through the WFNJ/TANF Programs
If you are receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and participating in an approved WorkFirst NJ (WFNJ) work activity, you may be eligible for child care services, including after-school child care for children over age 6 and care for children with special needs. N.J.A.C. § 10:15-3.2(a); N.J.A.C. § 10:90-5.2(a). Child care services are available during your period of TANF eligibility and for an additional 24 consecutive months if you become ineligible for cash assistance due to earned income. N.J.A.C. § 10:90-5.2(a).
If you are a WFNJ participant, employed full-time, and receiving TANF cash assistance, you may also be eligible to receive full- or part-time child care services. In these cases, however, you may be required to pay a co-payment, based on your income, toward the cost of child care. N.J.A.C. 10:15-3.2(c). Also, child care services may be available if you are an eligible WFNJ recipient and child care is necessary to allow you to accept employment, stay in high school, and/or to participate in an approved WFNJ work activity. N.J.A.C. 10:15-3.2(d).
