Several programs provide assistance for people with disabilities in housing matters. The Assistive Technology Advocacy Center (ATAC) at Disability Rights New Jersey provides information and referrals to help people with disabilities get assistive technology to help them live independently in their homes.
HUD provides Information for Disabled Persons on its website, including Rental Assistance Programs: New Jersey, a list of local New Jersey resources.
HUD also issued a joint statement with the U.S. Department of Justice (See Reasonable Accommodations Under The Fair Housing Act) describing the rights of people with disabilities to get reasonable accommodations from landlords, and HUD has a special memo concerning service animals (See HUD No. 13-060A: HUD Issues Notice on Assistance Animals and Reasonable Accomodations for Persons with Disabilities.)
