- New Jersey Veterans Helpline
1-866-VETS-NJ-4 (1-866-838-7654) This free, confidential helpline is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by trained veterans and professional counselors who can provide help with any problems that may arise when soldiers return home.
- Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline
1-800-273-TALK, Veterans Press 1 The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has founded a national suicide prevention hotline to ensure veterans in emotional crisis have free, 24/7 access to trained counselors by chatting via computer. To operate the Veterans Hotline, the VA partnered with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Veterans can call the Lifeline number, 1-800-273-TALK (8255), and press "1" to be routed to the Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline.
- For free psychological counseling services not connected to the military for soldiers, veterans, and family:
- Give an Hour - A state and national network of providers make themselves available for free in-person mental health consultations or telephone conversations for U.S. military personnel and families affected by the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
- The Soldiers Project
1-877-576-5343 Licensed mental health professionals offer free psychological treatment to military service members (active duty, National Guard, Reserves, and veterans) who have served or who expect to serve in OEF and/or OIF. They also provide treatment to members of their families and other loved ones in their private offices. Their therapists are all volunteers, and services are entirely confidential. They do not report to any government agency.

1-888-777-4443 A nationwide hotline for veterans and their families for problems ranging from mental health crisis management to people looking for their nearest Veterans Affairs clinic. Staffed by personnel from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (PST).

1-520-319-5500 A national organization of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans that works on building informal communities through peer-to-peer conversations.
