- Lupus Foundation of America - This is a national, non-profit organization that was founded to educate and support persons affected by lupus and to find a cure for the disease. This site contains information about lupus, reports on current research and treatments, and contact information for local support groups.
- National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program - The federal government established a fund in 1988 to compensate injury or death claims as a result of receiving certain vaccines. The program limits the dollar amount of compensation for death claims but not for vaccine-related injuries. The average compensation for a vaccine-related injury is approximately $1 million. This government Web site describes the program, which is administered through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) within the US Department of Health and Human Services. The site also contains links to other relevant information about vaccines.

- NORD (National Organization of Rare Disorders) - NORD is a not-for-profit coalition of voluntary health organizations. It focuses on helping people with “rare orphan” diseases and organizations that serve them through advocacy, education, research, and service programs. Their Web site links to their patient assistance program to help uninsured and under-insured individuals afford the life-sustaining medications they cannot afford.
This Web site also describes how to apply for NORD’s program for financial help with medical foods for individuals with Phenylketonuria (PKU).
